“I don’t get it.”
“It’s too chaotic.”
“There’s no melody.”
“It feels… random.”
Fair enough.
Jazz does not always offer itself easily.
It does not arrive with clear instructions.
It does not repeat in predictable ways.
It does not ask for your approval.
It asks for something else.

Most of us were taught to listen for certainty.
A clear hook.
A familiar structure.
A resolution that feels earned and expected.
Jazz moves differently.
It circles.
It pauses.
It leaves things open.
At first, this can feel like a lack.
But it is not.
It is an invitation.

it may not be because of the music.
It may be because of how you were taught to listen.

Stay with it.
